Join author and producer Birgitte Rasine on Saturday, April 16 at the renowned C.J. Olson Cherries fruit stand in Sunnyvale for a delicious morning of fun, exploration, and learning about the fascinating history and mythology of chocolate.
This event is designed for both kids and adults. We start at 10:30am with an informal chat with Birgitte about her upcoming middle grade novel, The Jaguar and the Cacao Tree, which VIPs in the chocolate business are calling “mesmerizing” and “a strong contender for the best title in the last 5 years.”
At 11:00 Birgitte will engage the first group of children in a playful exploration of chocolate, its biology, history and the creation myths of the Mesoamerican cultures that developed this amazing food. We will do a fun history quiz, learn how to tease apart ingredient labels on chocolate bars, and then go on a cacao treasure hunt in the store. (Bring your favorite crayons or coloring pencils if you like, because there will be coloring!)
At 12:00 we repeat the session with the second group of children, so be sure to indicate which session you’re signing up for. Each session lasts 40-45 minutes with a break in between. Limit 20 children per session so sign up soon!
Important note: When signing up for the sessions, please only register your kids, not yourself, so the system can track the number of children signed up accurately. Parents do not need a “ticket” to come to the venue.
We will also have copies of The Jaguar and the Cacao Tree on hand so be sure to reserve yours now for signing at the event. (California sales tax is already included in the price of the book)
SPECIAL LAUNCH PRIZES: If you purchase a copy of The Jaguar and the Cacao Tree via this event by or on April 30, 2016, you’ll have a chance to win one of three location-based prizesthe publisher is giving away in collaboration with select chocolate partners. (* Travel and accommodations are not included in the prizes. Please also note the winners for the general and the grand prize have already been drawn, but the prizes in New York, London and Guatemala are still open).
We’re looking forward to seeing you at the C.J. Olson Cherries & Fruit Stand!
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
All ages are welcome for the talk at 10:30, but please note the 11:00 and 12:00 sessions are for kids 7 to 13. Parents are of course welcome to be present, but we kindly ask all parents to refrain from stealing the activity materials from your children. We will have extras for the fun-loving adults.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is plenty of public parking at and around the Cherry Orchard plaza (corner of Mathilda Ave and El Camino Real), but we do recommend getting here on time in case the main parking lot is busy.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Please email email@example.com
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
If you sign your children up and they are unable to attend, you can give your ticket to other kids. However please be sure to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org telling us the name of the original participant/s, and who the new one/s will be.
Do I have to bring my children’s printed ticket to the event?
That would be ideal, but if you forget, just tell us your name and your children’s names when you arrive.
